Texas Army National Guard Team of the Week

Team of the Week – Week 4

by Daniel Miller

A come-from-behind victory to knock off a previously unbeaten Georgetown (3-1) squad earns the Leander Lions (2-2) the honor of the Texas Army National Guard iHSFAN Team of the Week. Quarterback Parker McNeil was briefly sidelined with an injury early in the second half, but the junior returned to the game in time to pass for 219 yards and two touchdowns and lead the Lions to a win in front of the home crowd at Bible Stadium.

A turning point in the game came with the Lions down 21-17 and looking at a 4th and 33 from the Eagle 36. McNeil threaded the ball between two Georgetown defenders and connected with tight end Michael Berry for a 64 yard touchdown. After Georgetown leveled the score, McNeil found Berry again for a 19 yard gain to set up a 24 yard scoring run by Matthew Long. That touchdown gave Leander a lead they would not relinquish, as the Lions downed the Eagles by a score of 34-24.

IHSFAN and representatives from Texas Army National Guard will present the plaque at this Wednesday’s practice.
