Bush’s Chicken Player of the Week-Week 2 Justin Ward- McNeil

Player of the Week – Week 2

Story written by Daniel Miller

Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex hosted a shootout on Friday, and the McNeil Mavericks walked out of “the Palace” having notched their first win of the season thanks to the Bush’s Chicken iHSFAN Player of the Week Justin Ward. The junior running back averaged 11 yards a rush on the night, totaling 154 yards on 14 carries with 3 scores in McNeil’s 45-28 win over Del Valle. Ward began the game with a flourish, torching the Cardinal’s defense on the Mavs’ second play from scrimmage for a 75 yard touchdown run before putting up his second unanswered score on a 6 yard reception from quarterback Hayden Cooper.

The games’ momentum swung back and forth as Del Valle mounted a comeback, even taking the lead early in the 3rd quarter. But the Mavs answered every punch the Cardinals threw, and Ward’s third touchdown of the game – a 20 yard sweeping rush around the left side – gave both the momentum and the lead back to the Mavericks for good.
